"Doc" Scurlock and his wife Antonia Herrera moved to Texas sometime between the autumn of 1879 and 1880, where they would live out their days, producing a family of eleven children.

The 1880 census for Potter, Texas lists:

Joseah G. Scurlock, age 30, born in Alabama, he was keeping a mail station

Antonia M. Scurlock, age 19, born in New Mexico

Viola J. Scurlock, age 2, born in New Mexico

Joseah G. Scurlock, age 18 months, born in New Mexico

So far, Billy Bonney has not been located in any census for the year 1880. Nor has he been found under any other name, such as William Bonney, Henry Bonney, William Antrim, Henry Antrim, William McCarty or Henry McCarty. Considering that when Billy broke out of jail in 1881 he fled to Texas and stayed with Doc Spurlock for a few days, it is possible that this is also where he was during the time of the 1880 enumeration of the census. It would also make sense that he would not wish to be enumerated for fear of being turned in and arrested. However, one possibility exists..a William BONNY listed in the 1880 census for Fort Sumner And Cedar Springs, San Miguel, New Mexico. This William is listed as being 25 years old (born 1855), birthplace of himself and parents listed as Missouri, and his occupation is listed as "Work in Cattle." Now, either one of two possibilities exists here, either William falsified his true birth year, as well as the birthplaces of himself and his parents, as was a very common thing to do in the "Old Wild West," or, as someone else has proposed, Manuela Herrera Bowdre answered the census takers questions for William because he was unavailable to do so himself. In this case, it is likely that Manuela was only making a guess as to William's real age and place of birth, another common occurance when someone was responding to census questions for a non-relative.

In the 1900 Census for Hood County, Texas we find Josiah "Doc" Scurlock and his family:

Josiah, age 50

Antonia, age 39

Josiah, age 20

John J., age 19

Amy, age 15

Marta, age 14

Prestley, age 11

Dolores, age 9 (also known as Lola)

William, age 7

Josephine, age 4

By the 1900 census daughter Viola has died.  It states in this census that 8 out of 11 of their children are living, so there are two others who have been born and died between the 1880 and 1900 census enumerations. This census for 1900 also states that Doc and Antonia were married for 24 years, making their year of marriage 1877.

Antonia Herrera Scurlock died in 1919. Josiah "Doc" Scurlock died in Eastland, Texas on July 25, 1929.
