Dudley 's Troops

I recently published Lt.Col.N.A.M.Dudley Court of Inquiry  Ft.Stanton, New Mexico 1879 which was originally written in 1997 by my father Bob Barron of El Paso, TX.   It contains testimony by over 100 witnesses, most of whom swore that Dudley and his troops never interferred with the fight between the Dolan/Peppin and McSween men.  Many also swear that the confrontation between Susan McSween and Col.Dudley was never as hostil as Mrs.McSween claimed.  Just to pick the brains of whom ever wants to bite on this, but for those who are well read on the Five Day Battle, what is your opinion of the level of involvment taken by Dudley's troops on July 19, 1878 other than the obvious fact that Dudley was a Murphy-Dolan supporter ?  Though used to diguise his real reason for marching into Lincoln loaded for bear,  was his presence needed for the protection of innocent citizens?    I'm eager for any and all opinions.

First of all, there was a directive in force that the army was not to be involved in civilian affairs.
Dudley obviously broke that on the pretext that some of his men had been fired upon. It is my understanding (I could be wrong) that they were fired upon by the Murphy-Dolan faction. Dudley was a Dolan supporter and made the assumption that his men were fired upon by by the McSween faction. This happened the day before Dudley's troops were sent to Lincoln. Why else would he come into Lincoln with a howitzer and aim it at the strongholds of the McSween faction! The only reason I can think of is that Dudley wanted to rid Lincoln county of the Mcsween faction.

I think Colonal Dudley was totally bias against the Macsween faction, the regulators were divided between three houses and he planted himself right in the middle of them cutting two thirds of the regulator force out of the fight and totally isolating the men in the Macsween house,he was a military man and knew what he was doing and if he wasn,t bias he wouldn,t have aimed the cannon at the Macsween house.
