Troubleshooting/Q&A

Question: Why can't I post a message on the board?
A: You must be a registered member of this forum to be able to post a message. It's quite simple -just a valid email address is needed and you'll be posting on the board in no time.

Question: Why do I have to be a "registered" member in the first place and have to give my email address?
A: Unfortunately due to the anonymity on the Internet, some people feel free to practice trolling on discussion boards, which is basically crude or unacceptable behavior meant to harass, annoy, or offend others. In order for me to keep my forum clean and troll-free, I require registration which enables me to ban or email a warning to obnoxious members who can’t follow the rules. The registration process does require a valid email address, although there are some people who don’t feel comfortable giving out their email address,  your address isn't displayed to others unless you want it to be. So during the registration process, don't opt for the option to display your email address.

Problem: I registered and I'm still unable to post.

A: Immediately after registering you will receive a confirmation email, and when you open that email it will automatically activate your account on the forum enabling you to begin posting. If you did not use a valid email address, you won’t get your confirmation email and your account won’t be activated. If you did use a valid email address and never received your confirmation email, please email me (webmaster/forum administrator) and I’ll try to resolve the problem.

Problem: I'm a registered member and when I tried to log-in, it said I was banned, why?
A: If you were banned from posting on this forum without warning, it was due to a gross misconduct and an offense too serious to give a user a warning. If you feel you were unjustly banned and want your account re-activated, I will give you a chance to plead your case via email (scroll below for my email address).

Problem: Why was my post deleted, edited, or moved?
A: I won’t be tampering with anyone’s post unless it’s absolutely necessary. So if I deleted or edited your post, it was due to a misconduct (and you will most certainly get a warning from me or even banned).  If I moved your post, it was because it was not in the appropriate forum. Example: if you posted a message about Jesse James in the Billy the Kid forum, I would move it in the Old West forum where non-Billy the Kid related topics go.

Q: What are Topic Icons?
A: Just an interesting and fun way to express your subject topic.

Q: What is an avatar and how could I get one?
A: An avatar is a little picture displayed below your username to personalize your message; for example, mine is the floppy-eared rabbit sitting in front of a computer. To activate an avatar for yourself, go to your member setting page (the web page where you first registered) and go to the avatar section. There you can choose from the forum’s own avatar library or you can put in an URL of an avatar you selected elsewhere (there are many free avatars for discussion boards on the Internet, be sure to use a “direct linking” avatar). After putting in your avatar URL or selecting one from the library, remember to save the changes before exiting.

Q: What is a Signature?
A: Just another way to personalize your account; for instances my signature is “Marcelle Brothers, Webmaster of About Billy the Kid & Forum Administrator.” Yours could be a favorite quote, expression, or anything you want as long as it’s not offensive. If you want to take advantage of this feature, see your member setting page (the web page where you first registered) and go to the “signature” box and type in your signature and don’t forget to save the changes before you exit.

Problem: When I click on an Emotion Icon to go on my message, nothing happens.
A: If you have this problem, I can't tell you why it is happening, but if it is, try copy and pasting  the Emotion Icon on your message. That should do the trick.

Q: How can I hyper link a URL address in my message?
A: When your typing a post, you'll notice below the font size drop menu and in between the ___ and <>,  there is an image of a chain link -that option is for linking a URL address. Click on that image and you'll get the hyper link information for linking a URL to a word or sentence in your message.

Problem: I'm offended by another member's post and behavior on the forum.
A: Instead of taking matters in your own hands by starting a verbal battle on the board and possibly endangering yourself of getting banned as well by stooping to that person's level, please bring any offensive or insulting messages to my attention via email. I oversee my board regularly and should catch any offensive posts, but if I do miss one, email me and I will remove it and warn that member and depending on the severity, ban them from posting here again. So if there's any misconduct going on, don’t be shy about notifying me and I will take care of it.
