hey guys, i was recently on a site (dont ask me to remember which) and i read a story about billys death, heres how it went:
Billy the kid rode into fort sumner and waited in a friends house. His friends name was jesus and he was mexican. When jesus arrived back to the house billy was rummaging around looking for food but jesus said all that he had in was tortilla chips and beans, which billy was sick of eating. So billy decided to head over to the store to get some pork. Billy went over to the store and there was a man asleep outside, he snuck past the man and went in. He was followed in by a man, Pat garrett. Billy heard a man approaching and asked who he was in spanish, the man did not answer and fired two shots at billy. The first hit him under the heart and he died almost instantly, the second missed completely. Pat garrett then escaped and fled.
Dont know what you guys make of that but i thought i would let you all know. If i come across the site again ill let you know the adress.
I have read a story similar to that in Miguel Otero's "The Real Billy the Kid"... I have not read it in along time since it was an old book...but I think it said that he went to Maxwell's house and didn't want whatever the guys there gave him to eat so he went to cut some meat off some cow or pig they had killed, and had hung up somewhere. Then he went and got killed by Pat Garret. I always thought that was pretty weird to think that Billy, on the run, tired, ect... would be picky enough to risk his life for some meat!
I think so many people hate garrett because they can see him for the snake that he was.
He killed the Kid,Bowdre and O,Folliard not to bring law and order to the west but for his own personal gain,he wanted to be a big player in new Mexico along with Dolan and all the other powerful individuals in New Mexico and he killed the Kid as a means to an end, doesn,t sound like a good guy to me.
I agree with Kate. Had he not been ambushed, he would have clearly been able to outdraw Pat. Also, I recently read somewhere that Garrett said that he saw that Billy was holding a knife and a gun when he shot him. However, Billy did not see that 6'4" man sitting right in front of him. Something doesn't add up.
P.S. To Ms. Brothers--I love the updates to the website!
