I couldn't agree more! On my filmography web page, I listed it as the worst Billy the Kid film made. For anyone who knows the history of Billy the Kid, will find this movie disturbing. It portrays Billy the Kid as a coward and wimp, who runs with a pimp. Aside from being grossly inaccurate, it's one of the worse westerns I've seen.

Unfortunately there aren't any real accurate movies on Billy the Kid, although, Gore Vidal's Billy the Kid, starring Val Kilmer is the most accurate compared to others. It's not as exciting or interesting as Young Guns and Val's portrayal of Billy is a bit dull, but out of all the films made on Billy the Kid, that one is the most accurate.
If you are visiting Billy the Kid’s grave at Fort Sumner, you can also check out the museums there. One is the Billy the Kid Museum in town and there’s another one at the Old Fort Sumner Monument where Billy the Kid’s grave is –both are hard to miss. Another great place to visit is Lincoln, (in Lincoln County, near Ruidoso). If you can possibly make it down there on your trip, it would be well worth it. Aside from Billy the Kid & Lincoln County War historical sites and museums, there’s plenty of other things to see and do. It just so happens on the first weekend of August, is Lincoln Days and the Billy the Kid pageant, which is a festival type deal, so if your trip is around that time, it may be something to look into.
