I am going to place Flowers at the Resting Places of Catherine Antrim and Billy and also to visit Family that Lives in New Mexico, and also for the BTKOG Campout.
I will be using my CAS Name, Can Chaser Kate, but just call me Kate, y'all!
I am Really Looking Forward to this Trip and I cannot wait to see New mexico again!
I went there once when I was 16, and then did not get a chance to return until next month!
I am SOOO Excited! I'll be taking 10 Rolls of Photos, and will let y'all know when I will be able to develop and show them!
I hope to go there in the fall, but they don't know where Billy is buried. Apparently there was a flood and no one even knows if the marker is in the right place. As for his mother, she was supposed to be re buried when someone bought the old cemetery and no one knows if that is true or not. Really disappointing. That's my understanding at least.
Hi Kate....My name is Donna. I am the editor and publisher of the Dudley Court of Inquiry and I will also be at the BTKOG Campout in Ruidoso the weekend of July 16-18th. My husband and I are traveling from Minnesota and have visited New Mexico many, many, times over the past 23 years. Last year we attended our first " Old Lincoln Days " in Lincoln and saw the Billy the Kid pageant which we really enjoyed. Hopefully we will get a chance to meet on Saturday when I will be selling and signing books along with a few other authors. Have a good trip....See Ya There !!
Howdy, Donna! Yeah, my Husband and I sure hope to meet you and yours at the Campout!
Sure hope the Forest will be open!
If not, the Gal that runs the R.V. Park is a Cousin of mine (Distantly), and we will be the Large, 2 Room Tent with the Blue Dodge Pickup Truck in Front.
We're Pulling in on the Afternoon of the 15th and will be staying for the Entire thing! I am Excited and can Hardly Wait!
It's nice to see so many people interested in New Mexico and one of its claims to fame (the UFOs at Roswell are the other big attraction).
By way of introduction, my family moved to NM during the Great Depression, so I and my siblings were all born there.
I've not lived in NM for some years, but just returned from a trip "home" last month. It's kind of sad to see so much of NM changing and becoming generic from the way it was when I was growing up. Although I generally detest the dry desert, I sure don't like seeing McDonald's and Allsup's cluttering up the view.
It was kind of odd to be around the "legend" when I was growing up talking to the elders, but not realizing that Billy's escapades & the Lincoln County War was such a big deal outside of NM. By the time I left for college, I did have the presence of mind to advise a local library to pull some verrrrrry old books on the Lincoln County War out of circulation and put them in the Rare Book Collection. I wonder if they still have them? Those old books really named the names...and there was a great deal of controversy because so many of the families descendants were still carrying grudges in Lincoln County.
Anyway, have a lot of fun in NM. It's a nice place to *visit* if you don't have to live there. (Too much wind and dirt).
