The birthdate of Billy has long been a matter of great interest and debate. One clue that might bring us closer to his actual birthdate can be found in the 26 July 1881 edition of the Fort Wayne Daily Gazette (Indiana). It is claimed in this newspaper account that Billy was 20 years and 10 months old when he was killed, placing his date of birth sometime in September of 1860.

I don't know how I missed this post -sorry Cyan.


That is an interesting find and I wonder where Fort Wayne Daily Gazette got that info. In other publications the writers made  guesses and had stated Billy the Kid being the commonly accepted 21 years old  and even 25 at the time of death. So is that the case here or did the Fort Wayne Daily Gazette actually know something the rest of the world didn't?
