Historians & Brushy
Permalink Closed

After reading much on the internet and watching the documentry of Billy the Kid on the Young Guns dvd, it seems to me that all historians dismiss Brushy Bill and they don't even like to talk about it. Why is this so? Are they for certain he did not exsist? This is particularly for the webmaster if you could tell me your thoughts of these authority figures and with Brushy. I am a little interested in the notion it seems to me as time goes on the more popular Brushy gets. If you could just share your thought or something. I read your Billy vs. Brushy and I read the links of the Brushy report but to me I don't know for certain.

I would appreciate a response. Thank you.

The Brushy claim is built solely on conspiracy theories –not facts. Historians, including myself, don't like talking about Brushy Bill Roberts because he is not Billy the Kid nor is it history, but some wild absurd claim. Yes, we are certain he is not Billy the Kid. Nevertheless, we are forced to discuss and dispel the debate to no end. Lastly, the reason for Brushy’s so-called popularity is due to his claim getting more attention, not that it’s more widely accepted. Brushy was not that well-known until the movie Young Guns II came out and now with this DNA investigation he's getting more publicity.

After viewing mine and Lucas Speers' web pages on the Brushy debate, I'm rather surprised that you are more doubtful then before. What is it that you're questioning or have doubts on? Before you jump to conclusions about Brushy, I suggest to first study the history of Billy the Kid and read a couple of biographies, especially the ones I recommended. You  may then not be so doubtful.

I can understand how someone new to the Billy the Kid subject could find the whole Brushy Bill theory intriguing. After seeing Young Guns II for the first time many years ago, I too had my interests piqued. But after reading many books and doing years of research about Billy the Kid you quickly start to realize how ridiculous the Brushy Bill thing is. If nothing else though it did get me interested in Billy the Kid and drove me to research the truth about him.
