Billy the Kid & Native Americans

Up to this point I haven't heard anything about Billy the Kid and Natives? Is there anything out there. Did he have any encounters, I don't know to much about when the Treaty's and Reservations came into effect in New Mexico? But is there any history between Billy and Natives, I once heard he had a few Native women encounters?

Thanks.

In Billy's day there were plenty of Mescalero Apache and Navajo Indians in New Mexico, any encounters Billy had with the Apaches was minimal and the info even on that is somewhat conflicting. There's one myth that Billy rescued a wagon train from hostile Indians, but that's exactly what that story is...a myth. Indian reservations did exist in New Mexico and there were soldiers around to keep things from getting too out of control, so there weren’t any real hostile Indian attacks on whites like there may have been in the earlier days, although there were some rebels like Victorio, who got as much press publicity as Billy the Kid. As for the Indian women Billy encountered…..the only woman I can think of is Deluvina Maxwell, who was a Navajo and a former slave before she was taken in by the Maxwell family and took their last name. Deluvina adored Billy and he liked her as a friend, but not as a sweetheart -his eye was on Paulita Maxwell.

Thank you for your reply Marcelle, The native woman with the Maxwell's, you mentioned another woman Paulitta, do you know any other info on her, age, what she looked like (ie: hair color/eyes skin tone, was she white, were the Maxwell's white)? Was Paulitta the daughter of the Maxwell's and the native woman who lived with them was it like a daughter/sister relationship, or did she do chores for them? So in other words Billy the Kid treated the native girl like Paulitta's little sister, did she have a crush on him? (do you know any of her features, pretty etc.)?

I'm interested in the Maxwell relationship and the history of the Maxwell family, please tell me more. Where did they live city/state/town/country? how many in the family anything thanks.

You seem very interested in all sorts of details.  Are you writing a book or something may I ask?

Hi Andygal, thank you for your post.

No, I'm not writing a book. I've never really thought about writing biographies/histories on certain people and certain events. Though when i become interested in a certain person/event I like to know as much detail as I can. I suppose I'm the type of person that when someone's talking to me, I look at that person and that person only, I pay attention, I like detail in life, wheather if your looking at detail of how a person looks, their features, or even small things like the things they like. I'm attracted to detail. I love learning, learning about different people and subjects and when I do I pay attention I just love details and to me learning about something I'm not satisfied with just a little I want to learn as much as is available on a subject. Even with my daily life, I'm never satisfied with just making it thru, I want to help people and I want to do my best effort in the daily tasks that I do.

I don't know if that answers your questions? But thanks for your interest.
