Welcome to the board.

A lot of us here (including me) got our interest in Billy the Kid due to the Young Guns movies. It gave a sort of rebirth to Billy the Kid's popularity, and although the movies are not historically accurate, I think it did a lot more good for Billy the Kid than bad.

I hope you continue to enjoy my website and I'm sure anyone here on this board will be more than willing to help you out with info or questions you might have.

This is a real nice and informative website and mucho gracias goes out to the Webmaster.  As for info on Billy and the Young Guns movies, I suggest you always keep an open mind about all the books and all the movies and all the comments you get on discussion boards.  One of the most missed scenes in Young Guns is the showing of (as porytrayed in the film) little visibility of the Hispanics..The film writers did somewhat a good job on letting us know that they however, existed in the Legend.

To study the Legend is to understand and research the contributions of the Hispanics of that era.  But do keep an open mind about Billy.

Have to agree with you on there somewhat. But I would have to say Estevez was not the perfect choice to play Bonney in the film. The whole film IMO is about 50 %  accurate . The story is mainly twisted and turned around a bit for entertainment ( shows how much hollywood cares these days) and when Billy came up behind Brady in the scene wher they're supposed to surround and ambush him it was so inaccurate is was pathetic. I mean come on the kid would never skip and go behind brady and just tip his hat off. thats not the "kid" that many people describe him as. But sorry is i bashed my opinion on this film lol

When you read Frederick Nolans The West Of Billy The Kid it makes you wonder why they don,t make a film about Billy that is really accurate because the true story is so good,it would have a fast pace and plenty of action and it would be action that happened in real life which would make it even better to watch.

If charlie bowdre continued to ride with the kid, how come at the end of the first young guns film, he is killed leaving alexs house? and did he atcually kill john kinney at that time? There are infact alot of questions i have about that film but i wont bore you.

The film-makers for Young Guns took the legend of Billy the Kid and came up with an action pack movie aimed for entertainment. So therefore they rearranged history and come up with new ideas for their story that was completely different from the true history (my web page History vs. Young Guns can point out some of those differences). Some of those "movie" ideas had Charlie Bowdre getting killed while escaping McSween's house and before dying he shot down John Kinney. In really life that whole scene never happened and nor Bowdre or Kinney were killed. It's all Hollywood.

I just saw the movie for the first time a few
weeks ago and just saw the second one yesterday.
It was much more inaccurate, wow, I wonder why
they changed so much , like they had characters
killed off that really lived and vice versa.
And Garret's life seemed to be totally made up.
The only book I have read on Billy is the Nolan
one, and it is quite confusing with so many
characters, but I would love to read more from
those who actually were part of the gang.
Did any of those who lived a long time afterwards
ever write an account of the REgulators?

I LOVE the Young Guns movies. I have both of them. It was what first sparked my interest in Billy the Kid. I know they are inaccurate, but it makes for good watching.

Billy skipping up behind Brady is also inaccurate, but from what I've read Billy had a "catch-me-if-you-can" attitude, so I guess when they put that part in the film it shows his attitude. (this is just a guess)

My family says my watching the movies is bordering on obsession (And my interest in Billy the Kid). I say you can NEVER watch a movie to often.

Yea, it really spoils the whole legend (but that's my opinion) the paint of Billy totaly wrong I think. It's rather a kids movie then real western facts. Billy was charismatic, he was not that handsome but there was something mysterious about him that makes people pitty and love him (until still this day) the young gun actor has actually NOTHING of that, he just a fancy hollywood-dude
