Whilst grazing here, I have noticed the names "Kid Antrim & Catherine Antrim" did Billy's people originaly come from that Irish county? Not unusual at that time, if they did, I suppose.
So far all paths concerning Billy the Kid's nationality is indeed Irish or Scot-Irish. In Silver City, friends and acquaintances of the family specifically said Catherine Antrim was an Irish woman who came to the states to escape the famine. Billy’s characteristics also point to him being of Irish descendent. So there’s no doubt that Billy the Kid was all -or at the very least- half Irish.

Thanks for that, I'm so chuffed that I hit the nail on the head, no prior knowledge, I assure you. Not sure what you mean by "characteristics" If you mean facial features, then yes, he is of Irish stock, I have spent a lot of time in the "Emerald Isle" and I have seen many "Billy's", in truth, he has an Irish look about him, it is a very distinctive look. I have travelled a fair amount of Europe & the Near East and I believe that the Irish are the best of us, they will never use one word when they can use ten, they will engage you anywhere and talk your hind legs off. They are a wonderous people and the best thing about them is that thay are real. You may say that a nation cannot be judged upon a few, but I swear, all the people I got to know were like that.
I couldn’t agree more. As you said, Billy had the Irish “look,” but the Irish characteristics I was speaking of was his out-going and sociable personality, determination and loyalty for what he believed in, and his love of music and dancing. I’m sure you would agree as well.
I know this is off the subject, but I’m of Scot-Irish descendent and although, I’m not implying I’m as fun-loving as Billy the Kid, but I’ve noticed you’re from Scotland and you have visited Ireland, so I’m quite interested and envious because I would LOVE to visit both and my goal is to do so one day. Not only for it's beauty and history, but I’m interested to learn more about my family’s roots in the old country. Unfortunately, I don’t know much of my genealogy and wouldn’t be able to trace my family, but to be able to just visit the land of my ancestors is still exciting. One question I have, so tell me are American tourist as despised and unwelcomed in the UK and Ireland as they say? I have heard yes in London, but not so in Northern England or Ireland where people are more down to earth. If you care to respond, we could continue this discussion at the Small Talk Forum, since it's off the topic here.
